Gwen is a clay & cloth art doll
She was inspired by Gwen Ferch Ellis,
a Welsh woman accused of witchcraft in 1594.
She was found guilty and hanged the same year.
Gwen made her living by spinning and making linen cloth,
she was also a healer and attended both sick animals as well as people.
She had been using charms to help heal and provide protection.
In this doll Gwen holds a little pink moon made of fabric, extended by a tiny gold braid
She seems to be in a peaceful slumber
Her upper body, face and hands are made of clay
Her hair is a gorgeous brownish red mohair
For her dress I used vintage fabrics, lace and embroidered trimming
The edges of her skirt have been burnt slightly
She measures approx 42 cm's and can be displayed on the wall using the hook on her back
